Hello everyone,
In this blog I will be posting some materials for the class, but most importatnly in here you will be posting and adding your own work.
The firts assignment is to write a personal opinion in 150 to 200 words about the talk "How schools kill creativity" by Ken Robinson.
In my opinion, I agree with him in all the aspect that he told to the audience, because all the topics it is about education’s problems around the world, not just in Europe, it’s just that in all countries, but except Finland, where the government is always working for a good education system.
ReplyDeleteIn another way, the most interesting story was about the little girl that now is the best dancer in the world. This story started in her school when her teacher spoke with her parents, because he thought that she needed medical attention, because she always moved in the classroom for one side and then to the other side. Stories very similar pass daily in the education’s system, because in a lot of cases teachers don’t have any control in their children, so they limit the children’s skills and creative.
Finally, I hope that the system changes, because teachers need new possibilities for show the real vocation for work in this area.

In my opinion the talk by Ken Robison was very interesting and enjoyable, he talked about the big problem of education; it doesn’t have creativity.
ReplyDeleteListening Ken Robinson I realize that I’m agree with him when he says that teachers around the world, and education around the world are concentrate in first mathematics and languages, then humanities and finally arts. And he explains why when he talks about the Industrial Revolution and how the school structure change in benefit of the industries, prioritizing the contents that workers and future workers must have to know.
Since then the society think that if you want to be a musician or a dancer you wouldn’t find a job, that you will cannot live like that, because you will not have enough money for it. We live in a prejudice society who does not value our own talents.
For that reason we have to change the way we are thinking about education, improving the areas that schools neglect like arts, dance and drama.

I agree with Ken Robinson, first of all, schools are supposed to educate people on every aspect , which they don't, because things such as poetry, theatre or painting (art in general), they don't see them as important as mathematics or languages, but i don't think public education is the only one to blame, because society is who make people think they won't get a great future by doing something like playing an instrument or writing; secondly schools make students think they are good for nothing if their grades are bad, wich in my opinion it's stupid because they are the ones that should support and guide students, not letting them down by making them they think they are not intelligent, and finally public education wants all students be the same when everyone has different abilities.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to end this comment adding an Albert Einstein quote " Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand."

There is nothing more valuable than children’s creativity; indeed, inside them there is more imagination than any adult. Moreover, Ken Robinson´s ideas of changing the education status is so ambitious that quite countries of the world have to make a drastic change in their educational system. According to this, I agree with the professor, and I truly stand that every children has to be academically exposure to believe in their selves. Likewise, teaching methodologies should improve their imagination and make them explore their talent to another cognitive level something that no happen. As far as I am concerned, the main education aim is more focused on positivism contents, for instance mathematics or science fields, rather than on artistic skills, such as art or music. Consequently, this limited students’ development because it is not meaningful for them and could be not their best way to learn. Another key element it is that children are not afraid to be wrong, no matter how much they fail. In order to that, if they like an specific area and it is given the right tools on education students could develop an incredible talent on that area. In summary, the current education restricted the possibility of think that they can make our society better.

ReplyDeleteWhat I thought when I saw the video? First of all that Ken Robinson was completely right, because he said that all of us are interested in education, and of course, who could not be?
ReplyDeleteClearly in our country the education is a big problem, all of us want to solve it, but perhaps we are not doing well, for example Ken said that “in schools kill creativity”, and unfortunately it's true.
Today we value a career that we think that is more important than others, but are they really the only important? Why not music, dance, painting? If you think about it, these things give to the human happiness, more than maths, science and so many others, that's why my question is as big about it. But that is what I think, today we do not try to study this things, because they will give you less money than if you work like a doctor for example, but I really feel that if we don’t have fear and we try to do this creative things we could do it with more passion and why not change something in our society

After see the video of Ken Robinson, I think that Creativity is a important thing and sometimes we forget it. I never had thought that creativity is something important in the school system because we had teachers that taught us very systematically.
ReplyDeleteThe system forgot our skills and a lot of teachers don’t gave us opportunities to make different things. The main problem is the school system that it doesn't give us opportunities to develop different skill like said Ken Robinson.
Now, How we can change this problem? that's hard question, may be that we don't have answer for it, but we must try to see with other eyes when somebody of my class doesn't like my subject, or if they have not skill for it, because there are more things that language, or mathematics, or whatever. That is a cultural thinking hard to change. It is a real challenge, believe in different skills.
We could provoke changes, we must try to be different, we must try to give opportunities to have a society with other vision about important skills,because everybody is different, and then give opportunities to develop it.

I strongly agree with Ken Robinson, because today the schools worry about to develop subjects like math and science, leaving aside as important subjects as are Arts and Music.
ReplyDeleteToday we live in a society full of stereotypes that say that if you don´t good at math will not be someone great in life, therefore you won´t have a good job or a higher salary. But what happens to those people who were never get acquainted with mathematics and are excellent pianists, guitarists or even great actors or dancers ?. Well the answer is simple, will be regarded as people who couldn´t arise because work here in Chile is very badly paid.
Finally, in my opinion the education here in Chile should be more like Sir Ken Robinson poses, all the aspects he said in the video are necessary implant them not just in our country, they are necessary throughout Latin America, where registers the lowest levels in education in the world.

In my personal opinion according to Ken Robinson the creativity is not only undermined by the education system, also by the cultural values (society) the role of society is not a that of the dreamer or creator. Creativity gets cut down when we introduce the notions of being a legal adult, nature and things of that nature. When we get to college is impossible hold, individuality and creativity as a core principal. Because college and society basically train you for the work world. This is so sad, since a lot of people are frustrated, given that their creativity and talents were cut and forgotten one day. Robinson taught me by not only talking about education and creativity, also showing how present information in a intriguing way, helping me wonder about the future our society.
